This is a lovely battle damaged helmet and was the standard issue for the Japanese army of WWII. These were worn during the battle of Shanghai, Nanking, Guadalcanal, Burma, Iwo Jima and pretty much everywhere else, so the damage could have been a result of fighting in any of these locations.
